Aside from monitoring what is displayed on radio and television, which is what the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is commonly known for, the FCC does have other major obligations to meet. President Barack Obama’s $787 billion economic recovery plan has posed quite a deal of responsibility on the FCC to deliver. The first step in the process is for the FCC to make its recommendations as to how they are going to accomplish the bill defined advancements in technology. The news circuit has been bubbling with the new developments that have come to the forefront. Many are pleased to see that, this time around, the major advancements in technology are directly set out to benefit the people. The news organizations are buzzing about the new technology plan that the FCC has submitted to Congress. Granted, the final plan is set to be revealed in a couple of months, the news sources are excited to see that the FCC is off to a promising start.
1. One part of the technology plan that the news circuit says that the FCC has outlined was the initiative to offer high speed Internet across the nation. The news reports that some areas of the United States do not have access to high speed Internet simply because they do not have the technology to support it. The technology plan calls for the funding to be allocated from the Universal Service Fund in order to get the proper technology in place so that low income rural areas, also have access to high speed Internet service.
2. Another component to the FCC technology plan that the news sources are reporting on quite abundantly, is the proposal to designate some of the extra air waves to the wireless broadband networks. The news circuit is reporting that this is the aspect that many people seem to be in great debate about. The news reports that many television and radio broadcasters are outraged because they would like to use the extra air space to create more mobile stations.
3. The final area that the technology plan by the FCC, which has brought on quite a few discussions by the news circuit, is the fact that the plan also addresses the boxes that supply our digital cable/ satellite connection. In order to conserve technology, many sources in the news are reporting that the FCC is proposing that these boxes also be used to conduct an Internet connection. Many people that have the Internet also have a digital connection that involves a connection box, so the FCC is proposing a way in which the Internet can be successfully transmitted from the box, as well.
